Luvaria Ulisses (gloves shop)
|
Here you can buy custom made gloves. The shop was founded in 1925 and still looks the same. It's the only shop in Portugal selling exclusively gloves. I have a pair, they are amazingly warm and comfortable! You are asked to place your elbow on a little cushion and then the gloves tailor accurately measures your hand (and also your arm if you order long sleeved gloves). Fabula Urbis (book shop)
|
This little bookshop only sells books that are related to Lisbon in some way, be it guides, history books, photography books or novels that are spent in Lisbon. I tend to avoid the place because I always want to buy all their books. Rua de Augusto Rosa, 27 (on the way to the Castle) www.fabula-urbis.pt/ |
Livraria Bertrand (bookshop)
|
This is, according to the Guiness Book of Records, the oldest bookshop in the world. It opened in 1732 and it has been operating with no interruptions since then. It's been in its present location since 1773. It was moved from its original location due to the 1755 earthquake.

A Outra Face da Lua (vintage clothes shop)
|
I have a weak spot for vintage clothes, 60's, 70's, 80's and this shop is definitely the best in that field. Clothes are in good shape and prices are reasonable. Rua Assunção 22 (Baixa) www.aoutrafacedalua.com |
VLA Records (portuguese music shop)
|
In Príncipe Real (north end of Bairro Alto) you will find a new spot called Embaixada. It's an exotic building that looks a bit like an arabic palace. It's been working recently as has a trendy shopping mall. It has dozens of high-end shops of designer clothes but it also hosts the best record shop in town for purchasing portuguese music (cd and vinyl). The owner, Teresa, is a professional singer herself and she can help you find what you are looking for.
open every day 12:00h / 20:00h Praça do Príncipe Real 26; tel: (+351) 967 770 307 www.vlarecords.com |
Cortiço e Netos (azulejos/tiles shop)
|
This company spent decades purchasing collections of 20th century portuguese tiles from top quality manufacturers. Now they have a shop in Mouraria showcasing their beautiful collection of exquisite tiles, mostly discontinued products from the 50's, 60's and 70's. Don't expect to find those very very old tiles here. Prices range from 2€ to 10€ each and they also have craft artifacts that use tiles: trays, tables...
Calçada de Santo André, 66 (in Mouraria) Open Monday to Saturday 10h-13h / 14h-19h http://corticoenetos.com |
Viúva Lamego (azulejos/tiles shop)
|
This is shop of the most reknowned manufacturer of tiles in Lisbon. Founded in 1849, they are experts in tiles from many eras/styles and suppliers of most state commissioned panels and large tile works. You can learn a lot in their website about the process of tile making and the history of tiles. The shop is rather big and it is located in the former factory building (in the picture).
Entrance through Largo do Intendente, 25 (in the north edge of Mouraria) http://www.viuvalamego.com |
Flaidisaine (Lisbon souvenirs)
|
A few years ago, two close friends of mine started designing Lisbon souvenirs just for fun. Because they blend good taste and sense of humour, nowadays it is no longer just a hobby. You can find their articles in several shops all over the city centre. They have a wide array of products: cloth bags, postcards, t-shirts, underwear (see picture on the left), bottle-openers, among other stuff.
The shop closest to the studio is the Lisbon Shop, located in Rua do Arsenal, 23 (in Baixa) |
